ART SHOW AT COFFEE HOUSE

For the first time ever, we have decided to incorporate an artist showcase at Coffee House. Artists are invited to submit as many pieces as they would like to be exhibited the night of Coffee House.

All artwork must have the artist's name and phone number

COFFEE HOUSE!

JANUARY 22, 2016

COFFEE HOUSE

AT CYPRESS BAY HIGH SCHOOL

Our biggest event of the year, Coffee House, is coming up! We hope to see many familiar faces and tons of new ones this year! As always, it is open mic, there will be live music, the Bard Booth will be there to write you on the spot poems, and there shall be tons of food and coffee. Anyone and everyone is invited and encouraged to perform their ORIGINAL work and showcase their talent.

Next Meeting: Nov. 5th- "TV" day

"TV" day is not a day where we spend an entire meeting watching TV (that would be very unproductive), but, it does require a huge TV to be set up in Seigel's room to help hold our monthly poetry conference meetings. During these meetings, as a club, we skype with other literary clubs from other schools across Broward County through the giant TV and camera that is provided to us to be able to have a "virtual Coffee House or Open Mic". We encourage our writers, members, Live Poet Society, and staff to take turns performing their spoken word poetry to the club and the assisting clubs that are attending the conference through the online video chat. After you perform, people from other schools will be able to give you advice, comments, and criticism to help you improve your performance and writing and in return, you will be able to do the same for the students performing from other schools through the chat as well. This in no way counts for anything other than a friendly exchange of poetry, ideas, criticism, inspiration and creativity. This is a wonderful opportunity to shake off that stage fright (or screen fright), get advice and criticism on pieces that are in the works or you feel are finished but would like to polish up, and to share your passion. Anyone and everyone is invited to these events. Our first one will be at our next meeting, Nov. 7th so be sure to stop by room 457 right after school to get inspired and perform or support your fellow poets!

Louder Than A Bomb CBHS Auditions: Sept. 29th

"The Point Isn't The Points, It's The Poetry"

For all you spoken word poets out there, this is your chance to showcase your talent! This will be the second year CBHS participates in the Louder Than A bomb competition. As a team and as an individual, you will have the chance to compete against other schools in the county. There are many rounds to this competition. To be on the Cypress Bay Team called The Live poet Society, you must audition with an original poem. This is the only performance where we'll allow you to use a paper to read off your poem; during all other performances, you will be expected to have your poem memorized. You'll be rated based on poem content, performance, voice, and presentation. If you are selected as a poet, you will be held responsible for participating and attending all meetings and competitions. This is definitely an amazing opportunity to distinguish yourself as a writer. There is also an application fee to register for the contest. If you're interested, have a poem ready to read for Sept. 29th in room 457 after school. You will be evaluated by a panel of judges including teachers, students that have participated in LTAB, and officers of the club.

Some advice: Read something original! The idea is to distinguish yourself. We want to hear YOUR voice! The more personal and original your poem is, the better off you'll be. Also remember that spoken word poems generally have a beat or rhythm to them. Think about your audience. Most of all, have fun! For examples click the link below that says "Button Poetry".

FSPA Digital Contest Announcement

FSPA time is just around the corner! For those of you who are not aware of the wonder that is FSPA, basically, Literary Magazine, Newspaper, CBTV, Yearbook and all other publications made by high school students can be showcased here. There's various contests and competitions in many areas for recognition. It's on a Saturday Nov. 7 and it lasts half a day. Once there, you can participate in live competitions, attend workshops and talks, eat lots of pizza, and meet other creative individuals from other schools that are doing the same thing as you. Most FSPA reunions begin with a mini 8am rave where they blast music and announce the winners for the Digital Contests... we better hear our name there!!! Districts this year will be in Nova Southeastern University. Anyone in the club is welcome to attend regardless if you're competing. The fee is $20 and it covers food. You will need to find your own ride since it is on a Saturday. Our first order of business though is the digital contests. Every year, we try to enter all contests. Attached is a picture of the flyer. The due date for uploading is Sept. 30th. We need the actual works by Sept. 25th  so that we can edit them and upload them successfully. If you are interested in any of the categories (doesn't need to be under Literary Magazine but it is preferred) please email us or let Vicky or Olivia know so that we can coordinate and have you participate.

If we have more than one entry per contest, we'll have to compare and choose the better suited one. This is an amazing opportunity to really show your creativity, represent your club and school, and put something extra special on your college resume.

You WILL get a class grade for this if you submit on time and are in one of Seigel's creative writing classes.

Any questions, always feel free to email us: cbhselectricinkmag@gmail.com

First General Meeting!

Join us for our first general meeting tomorrow in room 457. We'll be discussing the club's activities, spoken word competitions, how to get published, Coffee House, and all the other great plans for this year. We'll also have a fun writing activity to get to know each other.

Hope to see you there!!

Electric Ink's 14th volume will be named Intersections!!

Thank you to all who participated in our vote today! We can't wait to start production!

Welcome Back!

Back to 6am alarms, waking up before the sun, heavy backpacks, back to school shopping, and hearing Neely say, "Goooooooo lightning!!! CRRRRRSHSHHHHH" over the speakers on the first day. Don't fret, school isn't all that bad. This year, Literary Club and Magazine has many new and exciting activities, events, and publications to look forward to. Here's some important information for those of you interested in club dates, officer applications, and beginning of the year info.

First Editor's meeting: Thursday, September 3rd:

For those of you who want to be a part of the production of our magazine, whether you've been part of it before or are new to the whole thing, please join us for an informational meeting. To be on the editorial staff you MUST be in one of Seigel's Creative Writing classes. No exceptions. This is strictly for editorial positions and other officer positions (like JR treasurer, JR PR, etc.)

applications are found under "MEMBER INFORMATION" tab

FYI: For those of you applying for a position, we are aware that the applications seem long and annoying. Do not panic! We did this for a reason. If you want the position, it'll be evident in the effort you put forth when filling out the application. We don't want just anyone on the magazine staff, this is important business. To make your life less painful, Seigel has decided to let you exchange one of your inspiration assignments if you turn in your application. We will make sure you get your class grade since the application is equivalent to about as much writing as an inspiration assignment in her class. For more information or just questions if this is too confusing email: cbhselectricinkmag@gmail.com

First General Meeting: Thursday, September 10th:

If you enjoy writing, then I expect to see you here. Plain and simple. We're inviting all writers, wanna-be writers, or those who are passionate about the art of writing to come to our meeting and experience the amazing world of words. This meeting is open to the entire school.

We hope to see new and returning faces!!
